The Cultivation Unit

Gardening and Horticulture

There is increasing awareness among researchers and health practitioners of the potential health benefits derived from gardening activities. The sights and smells of the garden can promote relaxation and reduce stress.  Gardening can leave a person with an incredible sense of peace and serenity.

For the above reasons, The Cultivation Unit was started in the summer of 2019 with therapeutic gardening/horticulture in mind for Clubhouse members. And so, all members of the San Angelo Clubhouse enjoy and harvest the healing power of gardening.

Our amazing members

Volunteering members perform the following tasks:

  • Grow vegetables chosen and used by the Culinary Unit in preparation for Clubhouse Meals.

  • Beautify the Clubhouse by growing outdoor flowers grow and maintaining indoor plants at the MHMR Lobby.

  • Grow indoor house plants and flowers to enhance the Clubhouse interior

  • Dry flowers, and produce paper for homemade Clubhouse greeting cards

  • Give classes on growing flowers and building water fountains

Gardening and Horticulture

The Cultivation Unit uses recycled paper, dried flowers, and leaves to make greeting cards!
