Director’s Corner

We have had an incredibly busy summer! Lots of trainings, lots of organizing the Clubhouse units, lots of event planning!
We just held our first “Homecoming Dance,” where we invited members who had not been here in a while to come back to the Clubhouse, join the existing members, and hopefully introduce new members to the Clubhouse. It was a huge success! Next month’s Clubhouse Caller will have several members’ stories in it about the dance and what it meant to them.
Looking forward, we have some other exciting events coming up! We were asked by the Chamber of Commerce to host this month’s Business @ Happy Hour event at the Clubhouse on September 24. This will give dozens of business leaders in San Angelo the opportunity to get to know us!
On October 2, Abilene’s Clubhouse, Phoenix House, will be visiting the San Angelo Clubhouse, so they can see an accredited Clubhouse in action. Later in the month, Orlando, Ruben and I will be speaking at the Mental Health and Wellness Conference in Abilene. We are excited to spread the Clubhouse model to people interested in advocating for mental health!
Our local NAMI chapter (National Alliance for Mental Illness) is close to being up and running! We will host a training in October (date TBA) and the executive director for NAMI Texas will be here in November to help us promote the new San Angelo chapter. Please join our Facebook page to be the first to get information about upcoming events!
If you or someone you know has a diagnosed mental illness and is over the age of 18, please have them come for a tour at the Clubhouse!
